Her son David is retired from the Air Force and is now a pilot for Island Air in Hawaii. Her daughter Janet is retired from the Navy. Joan has two granddaughters. |

Joan started piano lessons when she was only four years old, but she didn't begin playing percussion instruments until January1995 when she joined the New Horizons Band in Iowa City. This was one of the very first New Horizons groups and Roy Ernst was in town to help with its development. Joan joined DFNHB in 2002 and moved permanently to the Valley. She is also a member of the Glendale College community Band.
