Alan was one of the original members of the first New Horizons band in Rochester, New York. Alan and Sue used to spend the winters in Arizona when they joined DFNHB in 2000. They decided to move to the Valley permanently in 2003. Alan started to learn the trumpet when he joined the Rochester band. Before that he had not played any musical instrument, but he did sing in the choirs in both high school and college.
